FNB South Africa statements use a compact ledger with Date, Description, Amount, Balance and Accrued Bank Charges columns. The Amount column is signed, so debits appear as negative ZAR values and credits appear as positive values, instead of being split into separate debit and credit columns.
This converter is tuned for that FNB layout. It keeps the sign on each Amount, preserves the running Balance, carries through FNB-specific entries such as Magtape Debit Disc Prem, FNB App payments and Inward Swift transactions, and reads DD Mon dates by inferring the year from the statement period.
How FNB statements are laid out
An FNB South Africa statement lists transactions in five columns: Date, Description, Amount, Balance and Accrued Bank Charges. FNB uses a single signed Amount column, where debits are negative (for example -4650.00) and credits are positive (for example 7340.79). Dates are printed day-first as DD Mon, such as 01 Mar, with no year on the transaction line, so the converter infers the year from the statement period. The layout also includes a running Balance and a separate Accrued Bank Charges column that is specific to FNB.
How to download your statement from FNB
- 1
Log in to FNB
Sign in to FNB Online Banking, or open the FNB App if that is where you normally access statements.
- 2
Choose the account
Select the cheque, savings or business account whose statement you need to convert.
- 3
Open Statements or Documents
Go to the account's statements, documents or eStatements area. Use the downloaded bank-issued PDF rather than a screenshot or copied table.
- 4
Pick the statement period
Choose the month or date range that matches the transactions you need. The period printed on the statement is used to infer the year for DD Mon transaction dates.
- 5
Download the PDF
Download the statement as a PDF, then upload that file here to convert it to Excel or CSV.
FNB conversion quirks we handle
Single signed Amount column: FNB puts debits and credits in one Amount column. Negative values are money out and positive values are money in, so the sign carries the debit or credit meaning.
Accrued Bank Charges column: FNB includes a separate Accrued Bank Charges column alongside Amount and Balance. We keep it distinct instead of merging it into the transaction description.
DD Mon dates with no year: rows show dates such as 01 Mar. The converter infers the missing year from the statement period, including period boundaries.
FNB-specific descriptions: entries such as Magtape Debit Disc Prem, FNB App Transfer To, FNB App Payment To and Inward Swift are preserved as transaction descriptions.
ZAR amounts and running balance: rand amounts are parsed with their sign, then checked against the running Balance column so totals can be reconciled against the statement.
FNB bank statement FAQ
Does it handle FNB's single signed Amount column?+
Yes. FNB uses one signed Amount column, so the converter keeps negative values as debits and positive values as credits instead of trying to split the table into separate debit and credit columns.
How are FNB dates like 01 Mar handled?+
FNB prints DD Mon dates without a year on each transaction line. The converter infers the year from the statement period so the exported Excel or CSV has full dates.
What happens to the Accrued Bank Charges column?+
The Accrued Bank Charges column is kept as its own FNB-specific field where the statement provides it, rather than being folded into Amount or Description.
Will FNB App, Magtape and Inward Swift descriptions survive the conversion?+
Yes. Descriptions such as FNB App Payment To, FNB App Transfer To, Magtape Debit Disc Prem and Inward Swift are treated as transaction descriptions and carried into the spreadsheet.
Is it safe to upload my FNB statement?+
Uploads use a secure encrypted connection, your data is never sold or shared, and totals are checked against your statement during conversion.
