RBC statements are not all laid out the same way. Chequing statements use separate Cheques & Debits and Deposits & Credits columns with an intermittent Balance column, while RBC Visa statements use Transaction Date, Posting Date, Activity Description and one signed Amount column.
This converter is tuned for those RBC differences. It reads the two amount columns on bank-account statements, keeps signed amounts on Visa statements, and infers the missing year from the statement period because RBC transaction rows print dates like 07 Sep or Nov 16 without a year.
How RBC Royal Bank statements are laid out
RBC chequing and bank-account statements use the columns Date, Description, Cheques & Debits ($), Deposits & Credits ($) and Balance ($). Amounts are split into debit and credit columns, and the running balance is shown intermittently. Dates on those rows are day first with no year, such as 07 Sep, so the converter infers the year from the statement period. RBC Visa statements use a different table: Transaction Date, Posting Date, Activity Description and Amount ($). Visa rows use month-first dates such as Nov 16, again with no year, and the Amount column is signed, including negative refund amounts such as -175.95.
How to download your statement from RBC Royal Bank
- 1
Log in to RBC
Sign in to RBC Online Banking in a browser, or use the RBC Mobile app if that is where you normally save statements. The original digital PDF gives the cleanest conversion.
- 2
Choose the account or card
Open the chequing account, savings account or RBC Visa card whose statement you need. Check the last four digits if you manage several RBC products.
- 3
Open statements and documents
Go to the account's statements, documents or eStatements area. Use the official monthly statement rather than a recent-activity printout when you need opening and closing balances.
- 4
Pick the statement period
Select the month you want to convert. The period matters because RBC transaction rows do not print the year, and chequing and Visa statements use different date orders.
- 5
Download the PDF
Save the statement as a PDF, then upload that file here. Avoid screenshots or printed scans when the original RBC PDF is available.
RBC Royal Bank conversion quirks we handle
Different date order by product: RBC chequing rows print day first, such as 07 Sep, while RBC Visa rows print month first, such as Nov 16. We parse the product layout before assigning dates.
Dates without a year: both RBC layouts omit the year on transaction rows. We infer it from the statement period, including periods that cross a calendar-year boundary.
Two amount columns on chequing: RBC bank-account statements split money into Cheques & Debits ($) and Deposits & Credits ($). We sign each row from the column position instead of guessing from the description.
Signed Visa amounts: RBC Visa statements use a single Amount ($) column, and refunds can appear as negative amounts. We preserve those signs rather than splitting the row into debit and credit columns.
Intermittent bank-account balances: RBC chequing statements show Balance ($) on some rows rather than every row. Printed balances stay attached to the matching transaction for reconciliation checks.
Long RBC descriptions: foreign exchange, funds transfer and card-purchase descriptions can include references, names, cities or province codes. We keep those details with the exported description.
RBC Royal Bank bank statement FAQ
Can I convert an RBC statement to Excel?+
Yes. Upload the RBC PDF and choose Excel to get a workbook with transaction dates, descriptions, amounts and balances separated into spreadsheet columns.
Can I convert an RBC PDF statement to CSV?+
Yes. The same RBC statement PDF can be exported as CSV for spreadsheet review, accountant handoff or accounting-system import preparation.
Does it work with both RBC chequing and RBC Visa statements?+
Yes. RBC chequing statements use Cheques & Debits and Deposits & Credits columns, while RBC Visa statements use a single signed Amount column. The converter handles those layouts separately.
Why do RBC transaction dates have no year?+
RBC transaction rows show dates like 07 Sep on chequing statements or Nov 16 on Visa statements, without the year. The converter uses the statement period to infer the correct year for each exported row.
Why are RBC chequing and RBC Visa dates in different orders?+
RBC chequing samples print day first, while RBC Visa samples print month first. The converter detects the statement layout so 07 Sep and Nov 16 are interpreted in the right order.
Is it safe to upload my RBC statement?+
Uploads use a secure encrypted connection. We never sell or share your data, and totals are checked against your statement.
